The Art of Crafting a Mystical Poem
This is how it starts. Find a quiet and inspiring place to write. Enter sacred
space via mystical consciousness: Stop thinking, heighten awareness,
experience the world as intensely as you can, and come into the Presence.
Take your time. Get centered.
Begin with an idea, theme, image, insight, or feeling. Usually, it’s something
that suddenly inspires you to write. Write spontaneously on your topic without
censoring. Work on it. Play with it. Follow the energy. Don’t write from your
left-brain where we are all so logical; write from mystical consciousness.
Then rewrite, rewrite, rewrite. Keep going for the poem’s mystical essence.
Later, clean up the poem by getting rid of unnecessary articles, words and
redundancies.
Be creative with words. Experiment. Use a thesaurus or AI to find new ones.
An online thesaurus I particularly like is https://www.freethesaurus.com/
Read your poem aloud to yourself. How does it flow, where is the energy,
what part connects most deeply for you? Read it aloud repeatedly until
you embody its spirit. Further develop its rhythm and energy.
Put the poem aside. Do something else for day or more. Let it cook.
Come back to the poem and see how it feels to you. Rewrite as necessary.
Keep working on it. You’ll know when it’s right. Is the theme or feeling clearer
and more powerful or muddled and confusing. It’s like sculpting clay. (Start a
different poem if you’re frustrated with this one.)
If you’re really brave enough, read it to others. First without feedback and
then, when you’re ready, get reactions.
Print out your poem and put it on your wall. Look at it every day or so. Make
friends with it. Understand that a poem is rarely ever really done. You may be
changing it in the future.
Final questions: Does your poem change you? How? Does it evolve your
spirituality? What insight or revelation happened?
