Wisdom Circles: Where Community and Belonging Flourish

By Katie Lieberman, CSL

Community and belonging go hand in hand with Wisdom Circles—like peanut butter and jelly, they simply belong together. In these circles, we gather to share stories, listen deeply, and hold space for one another’s growth. It’s a practice that nourishes the spirit and strengthens our shared humanity.

But don’t just take our word for it. Here’s how several wise Sages describe their experience of Wisdom Circles:

“In Wisdom Circles we create ‘soul friends,’ that is, one who looks into the heart of the other, sees their inner light, and wants to support the radiance that is trying to grow there.”
Randy Morris, CSL

“The topics, compassion, support, and friendships go deep in all the Wisdom Circles I’ve been privileged to belong to these past 21 years. Wisdom Circles enrich all our lives!”
Nancy Gray-Hemstock, CSL

“Wisdom Circles are places of shared learning, bringing together everyone’s diverse perspectives and experiences. Every circle brings a deep sense of connectivity and welcome, brightening my week and reminding me of kindness in our community.”
Ethan Bonerath, Intergenerational Wisdom Circle Leader

“When I come together in my Wisdom Circle, I become aware of my increased capacity for empathy and how that has nourished my soul as well as my connection to the other.”
Jerome Kerner, CSL

“Essential to a Wisdom Circle community experience are rituals that invite us to celebrate ‘the wisdom in each of us and the wisdom in all of us.’ We know we belong to a Circle of Wholeness because we share a commitment to respectful guidelines of spiritual companionship and shared leadership. It is in Wisdom Circles that we hone our elder qualities of deep listening, compassion, and joy!”
Pat Hoerdoeffer, CSL

A Circle of Wholeness

At their heart, Wisdom Circles invite us to slow down and reconnect—with ourselves, with others, and with the collective wisdom that arises when we come together in trust and openness. They are sanctuaries of listening and learning, where each voice is valued and each story matters.
