Getting Started with Sage-ing
A good way to learn about sage-ing is to read From Age-ing to Sage-ing, written by Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi, with Ronald Miller. This tells Reb Zalman’s own story of how he approached retirement and envisioned the rest of his life, and the choice he made to live as an Elder, not just elderly. It explores in great depth the uniqueness of this time of life, and how it can be made most fulfilling.
Another way to explore sage-ing is to participate in a workshop or class given in your area by a Sage-ing Leader. Sage-ing International sponsors workshops such as Awakening the Sage Within, a one-day workshop that introduces sage-ing concepts. For those who would like a more in-depth approach, Sage-ing Intensive workshops are two-day explorations of sage-ing. Both are highly interactive, and provide a good basis for further exploration, including the opportunity of professional development to become a Sage-ing Leader.
Besides these sponsored workshops, Sage-ing Leaders around the country present workshops focused on various sage-ing topics, including life review, forgiveness, leaving a legacy, end of life issues, spirituality and other topics.
